Meet Lou & Woody - Woodland Walks, Latte Breaks, and Life With a Drama-Queen Lurcher

There are certain dogs who just become part of your story the moment they arrive. Woody is one of those dogs.

Lou and Woody live in Ickford, Buckinghamshire, and if you scroll through their Instagram (@woody.thelurcher) you’ll find a feed full of forest paths, quiet light through the trees, and a very handsome black-coated lurcher who somehow manages to look equal parts regal, ridiculous, and deeply cosy on every single adventure.

This is their story.

Spring afternoons at Temple Newsam are made for slow walks, fresh blooms, and dogs who like to turn every outing into a photoshoot. The Wildflower collar was an easy choice here - Mint Sea and Amethyst just belong against those golden daffodils. This was one of those moments where you pause and just enjoy being outside together.

Finding Woody

Some dogs come to us in the most unexpected, heart-pulling ways.

Lou first spotted Woody on the Battersea website - interested, hopeful and trying not to get attached just yet. She logged her interest, waited patiently, and then… the worst thing happened. Someone else had reserved him.

That might have been the end of the story.
But Monday morning came, and something changed. The reservation disappeared. Woody was available again!

She phoned Battersea immediately.

On Thursday, during her lunch break from the office, Lou went to meet him for the very first time. Instant connection. It was meant to be.

By Saturday, Lou returned with her son, Jacob - and Woody came home.

A little bit of fate. A little bit of timing. And a moment that still makes Lou smile whenever she tells it.

Two photos of Woody the black lurcher- on the left he stands in a field beside a sloe berry bush wearing a Woof & Snout Ember Moors Explor-Air harness and on the right he stands on rocks at Clumber Park wearing a Pink Pines Explor-Air harness
Two colours, two settings, same confident woodland energy.
Ember Moors melts into the sloe berries in the field, giving that deep autumn forest feel, while Pink Pines brings a bright, playful pop against the rocks at Clumber Park.
Woody really does make every shade look effortless - whether it’s earthy or bold, he wears it like it was made for him.

About Woody

🐾 Breed: Lurcher (approx. 2 years old)
🐾 Coat: Short, sleek black coat
🐾 Personality in three words: Lazy • Wild • Drama queen

We say it all the time: black dogs look good in everything. Woody is no exception. Lou has yet to find a colour that doesn’t suit him, but she’s convinced that pink is his colour.

Honestly — we agree.

Their Favourite Adventuring Spots

Lou and Woody are very much woods-and-wellies people.

🌲 Typical Walk: Bernwood Forest

Just ten minutes from home, Bernwood Forest is their happy place. A proper Buckinghamshire woodland with winding paths, birdsong, and enough space for a lurcher zoomie (or ten). If you’re looking for dog-friendly woodland walks near Oxford or Buckinghamshire, add this one to your list.

🏞 Favourite UK dog-friendly location: The Lake District

Forest walks through the week, fell walks when they travel.
That is a lifestyle we fully support.

🎒 Never leave home without:

Treats (always).
More treats (obviously).
And now, Lou’s camera - either her iPhone 16 Pro or Fujifilm X-T5.

Golden leaves to green pine trails - Woody makes every backdrop feel cinematic.
His Spellbound Hound Collar brings a touch of autumn magic at Clumber Park, while his custom hound collar looks perfectly at home among the tree stumps at Bedgebury.
Two very different forests, one very photogenic lurcher.

Photography Style

Lou’s Instagram aesthetic is best described as “Woody in the wild.” Natural backdrops, moody woodland light, moss greens, and an adventurous calmness that makes you want to lace up your boots and head outside.

Photography has become more than a hobby - it’s something that has brought Lou out of her shell, given her confidence, and turned everyday walks into something creative and joyful.

Photography advice she swears by:
“Listen to Meg!” 😂

And honestly, that might be our favourite ambassador quote of all time. When asked what from in particular Meg has advised, Lou said: "My dog is black, not blue."

Woof & Snout Favourites

Lou first discovered us at Edition Dog Live 2024 when Woody needed a new harness. They stopped by the Woof & Snout stand, tried on our Windermere Explorer Harness , and that was that - they never looked back.

🐶 What Lou loves most

“The customisable collars, dog safety being their top priority - but also Meg. Even before I was a rep, Meg’s kindness and helpfulness kept me coming back.”

We’re not crying, you’re crying.

💚 All-time colour combination

Sage wraparound with champagne backing and gold speckled stars (The Birch)

Neutral. Soft. Outdoorsy.
Perfect on black coats — it stands out without shouting, and adds just enough warmth and sparkle in woodland light.

Woody doing what he does best: exploring the trees in style.
Ember Moors blends beautifully into the greens of Bernwood Forest, made for those everyday woodland wanderings. His Sunflower Meadow collar (discontinued) adds a softer, brighter touch at Bedgebury National Pinetum, a little pop of colour against the quiet of the pines. Two forests, two moods, same adventure spirit.

Community & Real Talk

Being part of the Woof & Snout ambassador pack isn’t just about pretty pictures or colour combos - it’s about input, honesty, and friendship.

What being part of the pack means to Lou:
“The supportive members alongside the chance to give my genuine opinions without judgement and be part of development.”

She’s also made real friends through the community, which makes us feel very warm and proud.

And if there’s one thing she wishes every dog owner knew?

“There is such a thing as incorrect fit.”
💯 Preach.
